New partnership with IoT Inspector strengthens IoT security of Eurofins Digital Testing

P R E S S   R E L E A S E New partnership with IoT Inspector strengthens IoT security of Eurofins Digital Testing Bad Homburg, Germany / Hasselt, Belgium – 30. November 2020 – A new partnership with IoT Inspector is strengthening the IoT security portfolio of Eurofins Digital Testing, a global leader in end-to-end quality assurance and testing services. Eurofins Digital Testing will use the firmware analysis platform as a testing platform to support its test automation by automatically identifying vulnerabilities in the firmware of IoT devices and to test conformance with a wide range of IoT security standards.

Eurofins Digital Testing, an accredited certification lab, is offering a range of professional testing services as part of its cyber security portfolio, to analyze Internet connected devices, identify security issues and fix where appropriate. The tests address different stages from reference designs to final products, and cover serial data protocols on digital interfaces, wireless communication standards, performance, stability and compatibility aspects of the embedded designs, television and automotive media standards, power consumption standards and more.

With the addition of IoT Inspector, Eurofins will optimise its Internet of Things security portfolio by automating the discovery of one of the main security risks of the IoT: undetected vulnerabilities in device firmware that make devices prone to compromise such as data theft or network attacks. With IoT Inspector, the security experts now have an analysis tool that enables them to automatically, and efficiently, examine the firmware of IoT devices for potential vulnerabilities, such as hard-coded passwords in the firmware file system, obsolete third-party components, gaps in the configuration system or SSH host keys. Not only do they gain unique visibility throughout the firmware image but can also automatically check the level of compliance with international IoT security standards (e.g. ENISA Baseline Security Recommendations for IoT) thanks to the Compliance Checker function. This supports Eurofins’ Standards & Conformance Testing services, which evaluate their customers’ products against all relevant conformance targets, covering a wide range of standards in the media technology, automotive technology, and the hardware interconnectivity space.

“The pace set by the increasing number of connected devices in the Internet of things makes it challenging for security to keep up,” says Florian Lukavsky, Managing Director of IoT Inspector GmbH. “Too many manufacturers are under extreme cost-pressure when it comes to development of new IoT devices. Combined with short product life-cycles and a fast time-to-market, this too often leads to shortcomings in the security efforts and severe vulnerabilities as a result. We are therefore excited and convinced that our new partnership with Eurofins will contribute to securing the Internet of things.”
